What Level Am I?

How do you know what level you are considered at Salsafix Dance Studios? Good question! Time and time again I am ask the same question "what level do you think I am?" Here are a few guidelines to consider when you are trying to figure out your "level".

  • Can you easily recall the move?
  • Are you struggling, while the rest of the class progresses?
  • Is more than a single 8 count of the pattern difficult for you to execute?

Answering "yes" to one or more of these questions indicates that you are in a level class that is not right for you. Being in a class that is not the right level for you can leave you and your partners feeling frustrated, not to mention the possibility of injury to you or your partner increases dramatically! If you find yourself in this situation, put yourself back a level until you master the fundamentals.

What if I know I'm Ready?

Admittance to level two and level three classes require instructors approval to ensure:

  • Everyone in the class has a rewarding experience.
  • Partners enjoy dancing with each other.
  • That no one gets hurt.

So if you feel that you are ready to move up to the next level, you can ask your instructor for an evaluation. Please see below for a description of the minimum requirements for each class level at Salsafix Dance Studios.

Beginner Basics Class requires proficiency whether you are a leader or a follower in these areas:

  • Basic step.
  • Cross Body Lead.
  • Cross Body Lead with an inside turn
  • Cross Body Lead w/turn from shoulder & waist
  • Right turns (partnering and solo).

These must be mastered before moving to the next level.

Beginner 2 Class requires proficiency whether you are a leader or a follower in these areas, unless otherwise stated:

  • All of the above mentioned fundamentals in Beginner Basics Class
  • Right & left turns (partnering & solo)
  • Open-breaks
  • Hook turns- for the leader
  • Multiple spins for the follower
  • Styling fundamentals
  • Timing
  • Retention and precise execution of Beg 2 level combinations

Theses must be mastered before moving to the next level.
